Re: Song of the day...
The songs will be diverse? Cool! That means you'll include some Cajun, zydeco, Irish, blues, bluegrass, big band (swing), Tex-Mex, tango, samba, polka, waltz, old-time country, old-time (different from old-time country), Appalachian, Scottish, rumba, comedy/parody, opera, classical, march, swamp pop, New Orleans, boogie woogie, ragtime, and maybe even a few others? Cool! :-)

"In the Still of the Night" was a country song by Ronnie Milsap in the 70s. Long before WhitesnakeConrail Jon wrote:This is the only "In The Still of the Night" I know!hobojim wrote:?The song of the day is the moonshiners themesong:

Lots of music gets recycled. As an example, "Blue Moon," another doo-wop hit in the 1950s, was actually written around 1930 by Cole Porter.
Back in the mid-1980s, I was watching a hockey game on TV with a neighbor teenager, when the organist at the game (they still had live organists then instead of the crappy recorded music they have today) started playing "California Girls." The teen chimed in with "Hey! That's a David Lee Roth song!" To which I corrected him, stating," Sorry, it was written and performed first by the Beach Boys in the 1960s." He didn't believe me, so I walked over to the stereo, got out the album, showed him the copyright date from the 1960s, then played the song so he could verify it was the same song.
As a musician, I do like to try to find out who and when certain tunes were written. Of course, I play a lot of "traitional" tunes like "Irish Washerwoman" that were written so long ago nobody now knows who originally wrote the tune.

Speaking of Napoleon XIV and "They're Coming to Take Me Away"....
That song was banned from the radio by the FCC in the 1960s as they claimed it made fun of "crazy people," so naturally I ran right down to my local record store and bought it. Still have the original 45, although now I've digitized it so I can play it on a CD.
