Rails under Woodward

Unread post by MQT1223 »

I have a buddy of mine who posted on his Facebook this morning that construction crews are digging up Woodward Ave and finding Interurban rails buried in the pavement. Was this the Detroit United that ran on these rails? I'm assuming that is must've been effective at the time just to pave them over because I bet they are a headache to remove now.

Those rails could also be from the later street car years

Woodward Avenue still had street cars rails till 1956

You could also find some rails at the old turnaround at the state fair grounds, Woodward and 8 mile.

It sounds like these rails were totally bured under concrete so no one really knew they were there. It also appears that the ground they sit on will be used for WALLY, so its almost like an abandoned ROW coming back to life.

Sounds like you have WALLY confused with the M-1 Light Rail.

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.
