The railroad operates over three former CSX Transportation subdivisions sold to Pinsly Railroad Co. (formerly Gulf & Atlantic Railways/RailUSA), the holding company that owns and operates the railroad, and began operations on June 1, 2019. CSX Transportation still retains trackage rights, but only for certain situations such as emergency rerouting.

* All trains are turn jobs that are based out of certain points along the route. This operation allows for road jobs and local jobs to interchange carloads with each other.

Originally built from 1895 to 1906 as the Georgia Pine Railway, the railroad ran for 180 miles from Richland, Georgia to Carrabelle, Florida. Traffic and business increased beyond it's originally intended purpose for logging, due to the fact the railway provided an additional route from Georgia into Florida. The railroad was eventually renamed the Georiga, Florida & Alabama Railroad in 1901.

The Seaboard Air Line Railway purchased the GF&A in the mid-20th century, and eventually became part of CSX Transportation's network in the 1980's. The sections of track north of Cuthbert and south of Tallahassee at the GF&A Connection were abandoned in 1997 and 1948 respectively. The section of the Bainbridge Subdivision from Attapulgus to Tallahassee was sold to RailUSA (now Gulf & Atlantic Railways) in 2019, along with the P&A and Tallahassee Subdivisions.

Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad Overview

The Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad, LLC (FGA) operates 430 miles of track, running east/west along the I-10 corridor between Baldwin, FL and Pensacola, FL, with a branch line that runs between Tallahassee, FL to Attapulgus, GA. FGA is rated for 286K GWR and offers up to 1,300 storage spots.

The railroad operates over three former CSX Transportation subdivisions sold to Pinsly Railroad Co. CSX Transportation still retains trackage rights, but only for certain situations such as emergency rerouting.
