York Rail is a Genesee & Wyoming owned company. It was formed from a Merger of the remaining segment of Maryland & Pennsylvania, The Western Maryland York Branch, and a portion of the former Northern Central in southern York, Pa. York Rail really saved Rail Transport in Its area. York Rail Was created for many reasons. Ma Pa had been in bad shape since the mid 50's. It started gradually closing its line from Baltimore to York Starting south, eventually the only bit left was between Dallastown and Yoe Pennsylvania was the only stretch of track left. A few Steam powered excursions to Yoe. To pull out of this crisis the Ma Pa was first bought by Emons Railroad Group. Then, Emons bought the former PRR Fredrick branch from York to Mcsherrystown, Hanover, Pa. Ma Pa finally abandoned the last mainline section, from the current engine terminal to Dallastown/Yoe. The PRR Branch they had bought was a parallel line to the WM. It ran from the B&O connection Fredrick, MD to York, PA. Under Penn Central, the line was abandoned. The Lines going to Hanover were united under ma pa, as the Ex WM line was in bad shaped too. The company Was slowly trned into york rail (YKR) and in 2002, the railroad was bought by G&W and named York Rail (YRC)

YRC interchanges with:
The Eastern most spot is the NS Interchange, ESPN Interchange, and The Industrial spur to the engine house and the end of former Ma Pa Track. These three lines are united at the junction by the Baseball stadium (York Revolution). Another spur goes up to a small industry. There is the old station beside the Rev's field. There is another junction were the former Northern Central line street runs down to a few industries. The tracks cross the creek and weave through downtown. In West York there are two yards. In between them is the old PRR Fredrick branch.  South of the bigger of the two yards you will find your self in a massive industrial district. The line then crosses Route 30 and makes its way to the first quarry on the line. The tracks pass a golf course in Nashville and come into Spring Grove. There is a massive paper mill in Spring Grove. The original PRR line is in use as a switching railroad for the paper mill. Currently it is called Pixel. Massive coal trains come into the paper mill via trackage rights given to Norfolk Southern. The tracks pass a few other industries relating to Pixel. The line then goes to Porters (Siding). In Porters the YRC connects with CSX's Hanover Subdivision. YRC has trackage rights into Hanover were it serves an industry on the old PRR Fredrick Branch.

York Railway Overview

The York Railway is a shortline railroad operating 42 miles of track in and near York, Pennsylvania. The company was created in 1999 through a consolidation of Yorkrail, Inc. and the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, both owned by the Emons Railroad Group. Genesee & Wyoming gained control of the company, and the other Emons properties, in 2002.

The York Railway operates two parallel main lines, with the line running from York (via Thomasville and Spring Grove) to Porters Sideling being the main line. The other line running from West York (via Bair and Spring Grove) to Hanover has been largely mothballed. Only the section between West York and Bair, and a small section in Spring Grove are still actively used. The railroad uses trackage rights over CSX to serve its final remaining customer in Hanover.

YRC interchanges with:
