"Vintage Beer Brands"..
This is intended for the "over 40 crowd", but anyone is certainly welcome to comment.
We have a store here in Battle Creek that has just about any beer you can think of. Recently I was out there and spotted a six-pack of Schlitz beer. I hadn't seen this brand in over 30 years. I think the original Schlitz brewery went out of business in the 1980's. Anyway, I bought a six-pack, and as I expected, it wasn't very good. But, the bottle caps were printed with a very fine logo that I might be able to cut out for a sign over the tavern on my HO scale layout, so it wasn't a total loss... Lots of other hard to find beers there though, remember "Mickeys Malt Liquor"? How about "Carlings Black Lable"?
So, what is your favorite old vintage beer? Let's start a list......
Not to exclude the non-beer drinkers, lets start a list of old favorite soft drinks that are from the past as well.....

My co-workers believe that my "laid-back" personality hides some dark side of me that would shock the world. So I'm sure there's a few who'll look at this and think, "I knew that's what AARR was doing".MDH wrote:???AARR wrote:Traditional Coke...hmmm...

OK, so as far as the soft drinks go, I used to love Orange Crush, and you rarely see that anymore in stores. While I have seen it, it seems to be a "micro-brew type brand" these days.

Hey Don, remember "New Coke"? circa 1980? Wasn't that a classic corporate blunder???

I see it pretty much in all the stores around here, but I swear it doesn't taste the same as it did when I was little.Todd Cline wrote:OK, so as far as the soft drinks go, I used to love Orange Crush, and you rarely see that anymore in stores. Re: "Vintage Beer Brands"..
I can account for two beverages that are still lurking around in stores but have kinda fallen off the radar in favor of other beverages.
Canada Dry, Ginger Ale
Mello Yellow
Canada Dry is by far my favorite ginger ale. Ale 8 and Schweppes are great to drink too. I cannot stand the taste of Vernors (sp) though, as i don't care for the taste at all.

They have Orange and Grape Crush up here, my dad buys them a lot. Also as far as old drinks go, we've been seeing Dad's Old Fashioned Rootbeer and Frosty Cream Soda, too.

Yup they still make Squirt, one of my favorites. One pop I think that's changed even since I was a kid is Mountain Dew. I don't think it tastes like it used to.

I like Sprecher's Root Beer. The IGA in Villa Grove, IL had it when I lived there. Good stuff.

Oh yea orange and grape crush is still all over, mostly in gas stations. In fact I got two orange crush out of the vending machine at 59th st, to drink on the way home last night on the train.
