Police: Driver Tried To Beat 1 Train, Didn't Expect Second
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man and woman died Sunday night after driving around traffic stopped at a railroad crossing and into the path of two moving trains, according to police.
Witnesses said the driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier ignored crossing arms and flashing lights at the rail crossing in the 6800 block of Trout River Boulevard about 8:45 p.m. The car was struck by a northbound Amtrak train, then a southbound CSX train.

If all they saw was the CSX train, and if it wasn't moving very fast, they probably had enough time to get through the crossing. The "killer" would have been the AMTK train, especially if it was moving fast enough to not be as noticeable as the freight train...essentially- one slower moving train close to the crossing that distracted the driver from the faster moving train.
