The elevators in Shepherd and Rosebush combine to build unit-sized blocks although unlike Oakley and Middleton which usually move without other traffic the Shepherds/Rosebush's seem to move in the regular consists.RailsandTrucks wrote:Monster glc train, mostly grain I think, southbound between alma and Ithaca, 4 units on the head end

Does anybody know if the Grand Elk is working Friday. Just wondering.
Re: Michigan Shortlines Updates December
A morning southbound train out of GR with both WSOR units would be great! Is that too much to ask? hahapenn central wrote:Does anybody know if the Grand Elk is working Friday. Just wondering.

That would be nice i would chase to Elkhart if i had to The train that originates in GR does it go all the way to Elkhart or does it terminate in Kalamazoo.J T wrote:A morning southbound train out of GR with both WSOR units would be great! Very interesting i looked at the Railfan Wiki 303 is called at K-Zoo at 13:00 Hmm and does a GR turn.
Edit if it was a perfect railfan day could chase 303 to GR and back, And get a motel in K-Zoo and get up in the wee hours and chase 302 to Elkhart. Now that would be nice.

Once I was passing through Three Rivers and saw both of those units on point of a southbound freight. Quite a sight here in Michigan!J T wrote:A morning southbound train out of GR with both WSOR units would be great! Grand Elk went south through TR about 8:15 or so. I'm not sure if it was the 501 local or the 302 turn.

GLC is running in Cadillac today. Went toward Yuma now.
What is being loaded into tank cars south of the shops near the old truss place? 3 tanks there now. SHQX 6436 is one car. Hose running to the top.

I think this is a relatively new customer. Crystal somethingorother perhaps? Transloading leachate or used oil or something.TC Man wrote:GLC is running in Cadillac today. Went toward Clare.

I think Magna Fluids still receives chemicals in Kalkaska but with the reopening of the gas plant they may have moved this business to Cadillac too.
KC usually knows what's going on around there.

Re: Michigan Shortlines Updates December
When casting sand was the primary traffic for the Cadillac job they would usually be very slow around Christmas because the auto plants were shut down and cement was slow. These days it seems they are much busier because frac sand is a 52 week a year operation and so is the used tie and butane business.
