Having nothing to do with anything specific two days later….here are two photos from Friday morning of the door up at the loading dock at Coastal Container in Holland. It’s a little hard to see but the entire length of the interior dock is stacked several high of paper rolls. Also, this view shows that the interior siding runs the entire width of the building along the north wall.

I believe at some point last few weeks-months, Y121 has been delivering loaded boxcars to Coastal Containers after the company been training the workers on how to unload from the boxcars. In one of Tom’s prior posts, Y121 ran west from Holland and runaround at Saugatuck siding after dropping off some cars at Coastal.

From my understanding, when Y121 has work for Coastal Containers (mp CG27.5) they 1st have to go west to Saugatuck Siding mp CG32.1 & runaround their train there, then they head eastward since they have to back westward to go into Coastal's siding.

Quick note on the G131 that ran yesterday. No train would ever be "mis-routed" in today's age of railroading. They do not have the crews to just Willy Nilly send trains accidentally down the wrong subdivision. Crew qualifications and work protection agreements also don't allow then to just send a crew around a curve and run a different way. They can use different crew districts and routes to fill in the gap on trains based on crew availability, but they are very much planned in advance.

That being said, the current profile for G131 lists Wixom to Chicago Clearing Yard via Walbridge and Garrett. The train was loaded with wheat for a commodity purchaser in Chicago, possibly for export via ship. Will have to see if this was a one time run or another possible flex route.

They don't have to run to Saugatuk to run around, they can shove out from Waverly using the cab/shove platform, similar to going north to the Fremont Sub. Largely crew choice on how to perform the necessary moves.
