Ann Arbor Railroad Overview
The Ann Arbor Railroad is a Class III Railroad based in Toledo, Ohio. It is operated by Watco. The majority of operations take place on the Ann Arbor Subdivision, which runs a distance of 47.5 miles between Toledo and Osmer, Michigan, just north of Ann Arbor. In Toledo, there are four automobile loading/unloading facilities that serve Jeep/Chrysler and General Motors. These facilities generate a considerable amount of business for the railroad. Additionally, the railroad serves Mondelez International and Hometown Foods among other customers in Toledo. North of Toledo, the railroad serves CleanTech, CRH, ARG, and GEMA, all of whom are located in Dundee, Michigan. Prior to 2015, the railroad served Faurecia in Saline, Michigan. This facility was accessed via the Saline Industrial Lead, a four mile branch now used for storage.
In Toledo, yard crews are generally tasked with providing service to the automotive facilities and local customers, and building trains for Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation. Additionally, there is a crew that provides service to Mondelez and industries located at Temperance Yard. Road crews depart north from Toledo, serving the interchange with the Indiana and Ohio Railway at Diann, Michigan, the Norfolk Southern at Milan, Michigan, and the Great Lakes Central Railroad at Osmer, Michigan. Service is provided to customers north of Toledo on an as-needed basis by the road crews.
