Charlotte Western Railroad Overview

The Charlotte Western Railroad is a 14 mile short-line railroad that runs between Gastonia to Mount Holly (with a spur to Belmont). The railroad is owned by the state of North Carolina and is currently operated by Jaguar Transport Holdings. The railroad was dormant for over 20 years (since NCDOT purchased the line from CSX in 1991) and was reopened by NCDOT in 2010 to spur economic development in the area. Previous operators of the line since reopening include Patriot Rail (2012 to 2015), Iowa Pacific (2015 to 2017), and Progressive Rail (2017 to 2022).

The railroad mostly serves transload facilities and does some car storage.

CER interchanges with NS in Gastonia and CSX in Mount Holly.
